Rita Kigozi is a ugandan musician who is taking ugandan music by storm, one of the new breed of musicians that has strongly swept through the challenging ugandan scene. She is famously known for her chart bursting hits like Mubiroto, Twandibadewo, Tebakulimba and PEOPLE DYING one of the official sound tracks for uganda's Block burster movie DIVIZIONS.A multi talented jolly and lively Rita Kigozi who on top of her music career is head of Customer Care at THE DEPO LIMITED, and a designer too speaks to Ugamuziki.com in this interview

UGAMUZIKI- How and when did you start your music/acting career?

RITA-I was in ma s.6 vacation when ma friends gat me 2 audition for the first Hip pop canvas ever with Shadrack, a did go 4 the audition and a gat through, so a did “mother Africa” with GNL , Navio, Qute kaye etc, Kiwuwa produced some of the songs on the album, he was impressed by my vocal abilities, a remember he said to me “ Ritah, u have an angel Voice”, so a did ma first single Obakira,, it was and still one of the most beautiful songs,,,, tight lyrics, good vocals en professional mixing. So after Obakira, a did a Collabo with Denis Rackla “Mungato” and it was a massive hit. so dats how Ritah Kigozi came abt.

UGAMUZIKI- What did you buy after your first pay check?

RITA-Went straight to studio and also took my home girls out.

UGAMUZIKI- Describe your feeling after you heard your first song play on radio.

RITA-I was driving back home and a heard it play on radio, I was like, hell Yeah, my song is playing on radio, and that moment right there was special to me.

UGAMUZIKI- What is the one thing you really need back stage before a performance
RITA-I don’t need much, a just need some time to my self and a bottle of warm water.

 

UGAMUZIKI- What would you change about your past life before your music career or present life if you have the chance to?

RITA-I wouldn’t want to change anything about my past life because I have learned from my past mistakes thus becoming the person I am today who’s admired by many.

UGAMUZIKI- What do you sing about and who composes/writes your songs?

RITA-I write most of my songs, the environment, situation around me and people motivates me, past experiences and reality does the trick. My music is a fusion of all kinds of music, Afro – beat, reggae, dancehall, R n B, etc, a want my album to be an expression of real talent.

UGAMUZIKI- Who is your favourite artist (male and female)

RITA- Lauryn Hill , Beyonce, and Akon, these artists have one thing in common, they are flexible, the ability to switch from one style to another.

UGAMUZIKI- Are you married or do you have a boyfriend/Girlfriend or partner? Who is He or her? Any children? (Names)

RITA- sorry guys but a never talk about my love life; don’t want the media using it against me, if u know what a mean.

UGAMUZIKI- Tell us about your family life (siblings, influential family members in your music career how they have supported or discouraged you.

RITA-We are five kids, 2 big brothers, Mark Kigozi (Mbombo), Simon Kigozi en 2 little sister, Lillian en Lydia Kigozi, am the middle child.
 Both mum and dad have always been supportive of my music, they listen to it and give me there opinions plus ma big bro mark, his so into my music that he is the one person who isn’t afraid of telling me the truth

UGAMUZIKI- Favourite film(s), music or TV program(s)

RITA-Am not so into TV program(s) but ma favourite movies are
; scar face, boyz in the hood, friday 1, 2, en 3, fight club, old school , drumline, desparate house wives(series)

UGAMUZIKI- How many songs/ albums do you so far have? Do you have any upcoming?-(Please name them and the years of their production)

RITA-I have a couple of them with include: Obakira, Mubiroto 2009, Twandibadewo 2009, Tebakulimba 2009, Scandles with marlon Usher en Tigan, en more to come.

UGAMUZIKI- Any future plans?

RITA-Build a family and live happily ever after.
